‼️ Friends, please stay alert! Recently there’s been a spike in account hacks via phishing websites and QR codes. Even with all of Steam’s security measures, scammers still manage to get to your account and balance.

Previously, one common Steam scam involved trade hijacking. After gaining access to an account, scammers could cancel a valid trade and replace it with their own trade link.

With the introduction of Trade Protection on Steam, this scheme almost died out — the user sees the replacement and can cancel it. But scammers are still massively gaining access to accounts through phishing forms and QR codes. Once they do, they can:

• log in to Market.CSGO and try to withdraw funds;

• if there is no balance, create an API key and monitor the account to withdraw funds as soon as they appear.

What we’ve already done to protect you:

• login notifications — you receive an email with the IP and device used to log in;

• notifications about API key creation;

• notifications about withdrawal requests — if new, previously unused payment details are specified, you’ll have more time to cancel the request;

• the ability to delete the API key or completely block new key creation in the security settings;

• notifications when a payment password is created.

This is only part of the changes — additional features are already in development and will be added later.

Level up your security by doing the following:

• link your email in the alert settings;

• block the API key using the Block button in the security settings if you don’t use it;

• enable 2FA (two-factor authentication);

• periodically revoke all device authorizations for your Steam account.

Take good care of your accounts and your digital hygiene. We will continue working on strengthening protection, but the main responsibility still lies with the users.
